About the Role

As one of the first 15 employees, you'll work directly with the founders and senior team, focusing on new initiatives and ensuring our products address the needs of our existing customers. We emphasize an outcome-focused, low-bureaucracy, engineering-first work environment, prioritizing high-velocity customer impact.

As a core contributor, you will play a key role in translating and defining our product vision into reality and shaping our early engineering culture, processes, and priorities. Responsibilities include significant product development and evolving our approach to both frontend and backend infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Make Key Decisions: You'll make crucial decisions on tech stack, architecture, and processes, shaping the future of our product.
• Lead and Inspire: As a Tech Lead, you'll guide your team through the development process, inspire them to excel, and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Hands-On Coding: You'll actively code with your team, adhering to best practices for scalability, security, and privacy to deliver clean, high-quality code.
• Collaborate Across Teams: You'll work closely with product, design, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive progress.
• Drive Continuous Improvement: You'll identify opportunities for process and technical improvements and implement them.
• Customer Focus: You'll prioritize our customers, delivering the best possible product to meet their needs.
• Shape Early Engineering Culture: You'll help grow and build the early team and shape our engineering culture.
• Code Review: You'll review code written by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed (e.g., code testing, style guidelines, code efficiency).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant field
• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a proven record of shipping features on time and within budget
• Experience designing security and privacy-driven products while ensuring performance and scalability
• Availability for at least two weeks of onsite customer discovery in Hawaii
• Experience in evaluating and designing a stack using various technologies from the ground up to develop a scalable product (including web development frameworks, database architectures, cloud services, etc.)
• Ability to effectively communicate with users, other engineers, and non-technical teams to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience designing and building databases and APIs for scalable, easy-to-use messaging systems
• Deep understanding of modern web frameworks & libraries (React, Next, Express, or similar) and database solutions
